My very first career aspiration was to become an astronaut so that I could paint the moon from outer space. The every-so-slight problem of zero gravity left me undeterred, as I pictured my childhood self peering out from a porthole, palette in hand. My parents found the cost of Space Camp prohibitive at the time, however, and I found myself inquiring whether the Make A Wish foundation might consider extending its altruism to my cancer-free self. Years later, they (my parents) bore the brunt of MICA’s financial assault, and I’m deeply in debt over the whole San Francisco/ CCA debacle. But I still feel a tinge of hope: I once drove 2 hours to Mountain View to participate in a NASA study on vision in outer space. And if I could, you’d better believe I’d be dropping dime at Bonhams’s upcoming NASA auction. Keeping the dream alive, people.
