I recently discovered that the songs I most closely associate with California share a pattern of somewhat grand, sweeping choruses and/or guitar riffs. Here we have Road, River and Rail by the Cocteau Twins; the Pixies’ Havalina also comes to mind somewhat randomly, as does Frank Zappa’s Watermelon in Easter Hay. Do you ever think about what songs you would choose to accompany a documentary film about your own life? Not your favorite music per se, but what might best accompany the footage or encompass the feeling of a particular time period or event? I do.
