I once had a friend whose father was an art professor at a local university. He kept a .38 revolver high on a shelf in his studio, tucked behind a cheaply-framed print of Gustave Courbet’s L’Origine du monde (a very telling aesthetic choice made by a man notorious for on-campus cavorting). I wonder what Herr Professor would think of Courbet scholar Thierry Savatier’s latest book, which claims that the artist’s model was a whopping six months pregnant. Not much, I am sure.
